Keeping a Comfort Box

Being wife and mother takes up a lot of time! We get so busy making sure our husband and children are ok, that we often forget about comforting ourselves.

I picked up a book from a local 2nd hand book store a couple of weeks ago called The Woman’s Comfort Book by Jennifer Louden.

Jennifer offers up lots of ideas and suggestions but the one that stood out for me was her suggestion to keep a comfort box for times when you’re feeling under the weather, sad, lonely or just a little “meh!”.

So I plan to find a cute box and start thinking about what sort of things comfort me. Things like:

• a scented candle – I love the smell of vanilla.

• the softest tissues I can find

• a small box of chocolates – my secret stash! LOL although being perishable, they obviously can’t be stored in there for too long…although I don’t think there will be any problem with that!

• bubble bath – I love taking bubble baths but I don’t often get a chance to. It’s easier to just jump in the shower quickly each day. But every once in a while, I do get to soak in a hot bath and having my favourite bubble bath out of my kids’ reach will ensure there’s some left when I need it.

• herbal tea – I love my peppermint tea!

• a book of quotes

• a notebook and pen

• a favourite CD of relaxing or uplifting music

• favourite photos

So once my comfort box contains some of my favourite things, I plan to keep it in a spot where I can see it so it’s a reminder for me that it’s there when I need it.

What would you keep in your comfort box?

  5. Comfort boxes are a great idea as pressies, we women tend to put ourselves last and wouldn't think of making one for ourselves.
